The cabinet empowered Department of Fisheries to control and monitoring of imported shrimp and tuna. Department of Fisheries has set a condition for shrimp import as follows:

1. Animal Health Certificate from the country of origin is needed in order to clarify for the import of culture shrimp from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Myanmar.

2. Culture shrimp import from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Myanmar should have the animal health certificate to ensure that shrimp are free from Taura Syndrom Virus, WSSV and Yellow-Head Virus Disease from the country of origin.

3. In case of no animal health certificate from the country of origin, the importer should send the product sample for inspection at the laboratory which DOF accepted. DOF will take the sample for inspection too.

4. The acceptance laboratory are as follows:

Shrimp Biotechnology Business Unit
Faculty of Science, Mahidol University
Faculty of Science, Prince of Songkla University

Food and Drug Administration will responsible to inspect another Fishery product i.e. fish, octopus etc.
