Meeting to hear the evaluation results of the project to improve sustainable blue swimming crab fisheries in Thailand
On 30 March 2026, from 09:00 to 17:00 hrs., at Kuladam Meeting Room, 7th Floor, Chulabhorn Building, Department of Fisheries, Mr. Manop Nooson, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, was assigned by Ms. Thitiporn Laoprasert, Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, to chair a meeting to hear the evaluation results of the Thailand Blue Swimming Crab Fishery Improvement Project (BSC FIP).
The evaluation was conducted by assessors from the Marine Resources Assessment Group (MRAG) in two provinces: Chumphon and Surat Thani. Participants included inspectors from the Department of Fisheries, members of the Thai BSC FIP working group, representatives from the Thai Frozen Foods Association (TFFA), MRAG assessors, and relevant officials.
Representatives from TFFA attending the meeting included Mr. Trirat Chaowntawee, Advisor to the Crab Subcommittee; Ms. Opor Sripha, Member of the Crab Subcommittee; Ms. Saowanee Khamfaeng, Director of the Association; Ms. Nareerat Chanthong, Deputy Director; and Ms. Pakawan Tanwat, FIP Project Manager.
The MRAG evaluation team consisted of Mr. Robert Wakeford, Manager, and Mr. William Peat, Senior Consultant.
During the meeting, participants discussed and exchanged information on academic aspects and measures related to blue swimming crab resource management, aiming to drive tangible progress of the project in alignment with sustainable fisheries standards, and to further develop towards achieving international certification.
